Massage Therapist Training in Illinois

There are a few things you must do if you wish to become a licensed massage therapist in the state of Illinois.  The first thing you must do is get training at an approved school for at least 500 hours (this should be standard at most approved schools).  You MUST pass all of your courses with at least 70%.

Once you have been trained you need to write a national exam; Illinois accepts both of the NCBTMB exams (NCETM and NCETMB) and the MBLEx.  **Important: Make sure you arrange for the results to be forwarded straight to the licensing board.

Once you have done that you can officially become licensed.  To keep your license, which expired every 2 years, you must complete 24 hours of continuing education over that time period and pay a renewal fee.

Costs:

  • NCETM/ NCETMB: $225.00
  • MBLex: $195.00
  • License application: $175.00
  • License renewal: $175.00
