Up until 2009 Montana did not have a licensing board, but now there is a complete set of requirements you must fulfill if you have not already been grandfathered in from before 2009.

• You must get an official transcript from a school showing you have passed at the minimum high school
• Need at least 500 hours of in-class study at an approved massage therapy school
• Be at least 18 years old
• TWO letters from people other than your family that demonstrate you have good moral character
• Pass a state examination: the NCETM/TMB or the MBLEx

To maintain your license:

• Simply complete 12 years of continuing education every 2 years
